There's GOOD, EVIL, and "No Man's Land". So, Good would be things like "Disney". Evil is something like AL Qaeda or "Food Not Bombs". And No Man's Land is neither Good nor Evil until it becomes potentially profitable. Then, the forces of Good and Evil line up around it. For instance, it costs potentially, say $100 a barrel to pull oil up from underneath the Arctic ice cap. So, until now, Polar Bears were neither good nor evil. They, in effect, don't exist. So, if flighty women and graduate students want to "protect" Polar Bears... fine. Who gives a fuck? It keeps them distracted from things that really matter. But as the resource becomes potentially profitable, it becomes essential to redefine the flighty women and grad students as "terrorists" and bring state power to bear on them to insure maximum profit (good). Now this is nothing Noam Chomsky hasn't already told you.
Now, what if YOUR MIND and thoughts are interfering with profit?
What if you are thinking wrong?
What if young girls start thinking, "I can wear these jeans for another year."
What if young boys start thinking, "This job is not making me happy."
What happens them. Are we to divide their brains up into Good and Evil?
Yes. That is precisely what is happening. More to the point, we have Good, Evil, and Doesn't matter. If you can't convert Evil to Good, you can at least convert it to "Doesn't matter". So, while you are waiting for your job in the machine, by all means, partake of the pot, and enjoy your video games. It keeps you out of the EVIL camp, at least. |

imagine Imagine two hobos. One is downtrodden, depressed and nihilistic. The other, despite being filthy, homeless, and toothless, is filled with joy. In fact, he makes art, dances, smiles, and talks to strangers, expressing his joy.
Which hobo will be arrested?
When hobos "do their job" and confirm the authoritarian order, they are permitted to go on existing. If a hobo dares to express, or possibly even feel unacceptable emotions, they BECOME A TARGET for state repression. Hobos know this intuitively.
Why is it that YOU are able to model the situation and predict results. How is it that YOU know that Happy Hobo is headed towards a beating and Miserable Hobo will be there Day after Day? |

Terrorism Defined We often hear the complaint, "How do you define terrorism?"
And no one ever has an answer.
I do.
Terrorism: Any activity that does NOT result in a financial transaction. |

"I'm up against the ropes! I'm at my wit's end. When will this horrid, unceasing media scrutiny end? When? When?"

add it to the list Here's a game you can play. It's called
Jesus Never
It's a two part game. First, imagine things Jesus Never Did. Then imagine Jesus doing them. Feel free to add to the list, and play with your friends!
Jesus Never __________
1. Voted. 2. Tried to explain something subtle to a harried Kinko's employee. 3. Sat in the front seat at the Drive-In with a date who was in no way attracted to him while his best friend was in the back seat totally "scoring". 4. Tried to explain why he wasn't racist to a guy from Trinidad at a Frat Party. 5. Stayed up all night playing Tetris when he should've been writing a term paper. 6. Forgot Mother's Day. 7. Golfed. 8. Had a Toblerone. 9. Went on vacation and fantasized about opening a bar on the beach. 10. Drove a Beetle. 11. Napped in a hammock. 12. Spoke fluent Dutch.
What else did Jesus Never Do? |

Advisory Board Nominations Open Advisory Board Nominations BeginThis morning we are opening the nomination process for the user-representative positions on the LiveJournal Advisory Board. A full description of the process can be found here. To get you started, here are the basic things you should know: - You may only nominate yourself - Each nominee will need 100 motions of support in order to be eligible to be a candidate - We ask that you keep your comments on the nomination posts to "I support this nomination" or something to that effect; be kind to those who will need to count the "supports", please. - Although the nominations and election poll will take place in lj_election_en, you do not need to watch the community in order to keep up with the election; we'll announce everything here as well. Everyone here at LiveJournal is looking forward to this first-ever User-Representative election! We'd like to thank everyone who is participating. Some words from our current Advisory Board members: danah boyd: “LiveJournal is filled with very passionate users. These users have helped shaped LJ's various communities over the last decade and it gives me great joy that LJ is recognizing and incorporating users' voices into the decision-making processes. Having user representatives from different parts of LJ on the Advisory Board will help make sure that the company is meeting the needs of its diverse constituents.” Esther Dyson: "I'm sure we'll learn a lot from the process, and later on from the two users selected as well. Especially, I hope that the discussions before the voting will be more meaningful and more focused on policy than those in some offline campaigns." Brad Fitzpatrick: "It's cool that SUP is getting users involved with the LiveJournal decision-making process. I look forward to seeing who the community elects and the results of our efforts working together." Professor Lawrence Lessig: “The user elections will provide a critical check on LJ's process of maintaining a valuable and trustworthy environment for the LJ community. The mandate of the elections will give the user representatives pride of place among the members of the Advisory Board. Each of us will look to them to guide us in our judgment about how best to make LJ the community we all aspire that it will be. I look forward to welcoming the user representatives, and learning a great deal from them.” chasethestars has also made some banners for you to use, if you'd like to show your support for the candidate of your choice! ( Banners + code for you to use! ) Current Mood: chipper |
